Gigi Grinstad, Quilting Color
20 X 16"
Oil and encaustic

Statement from the artist: "In the early days of Covid, when Austin was first shut down I had an idea for a small quilt I wanted to make. I ordered a handful of fabrics, but the fabric store was backed up for six weeks. In the meantime to give myself a reminder I painted my color plan. When the fabric eventually came I was deep into sewing Covid masks, and I am just now beginning to make that small quilt. Something I think about a lot is craft vs art, as well as the intersection between the two. Many times what is considered craft, like a quilt, is something that has fallen into the category of "women's work", but takes immense amounts of time and skill."
