Annie Alonzi, Morning Run (August 21st, 2021)
Watercolor/liquid acrylic on watercolor paper
10 X 5.75"
Statement from the artist:
This painting is based on a photo I took of an armadillo I spotted in the street during my morning run. Despite having lived in Austin for nearly twenty years I’ve only ever come across a few armadillos, in roadkill form.
This one was so perfectly intact and newly dead that she caused me to stop running for a few moments and admire her perfectly scaly and lightly furred little form.
Over the the course of the last hectic year-and-a-half both watercolor painting and running have brought me a great deal of solace. A kind of stillness in motion. Like the decay (both visible and not) which begins as soon as creatures depart their bodies.
